Direction of a plot can be determined by any of the two modern simple methods by using a compass, the device for finding direction which has a freely moving needle which always points to the magnetic North. Make two lines crossing each other dividing a paper in four equal parts at 90-degree angle. Place a compass on paper in the middle of your plot and align it with two lines in the North and the South of the needle of the compass. Extend these lines on the plot and mark it to have exact direction.

Selling comics in an online auction can seem like a minefield the first time, but this doesn’t need to be the case. While it is easy to make a mistake, for the most part, if you avoid the main pitfalls, you’ll get a fair price. The main mistake many people make is to not list their comic(s) properly. They may accidentally put them in the wrong category, only take one or two dark photos, and provide little information. When you list your comic(s), you should double check to make sure everything is correct, take plenty of clear photos, and give as much information as possible. It’s better that you ramble rather than saying little or nothing.

You should have an idea of what your comics are worth, and set a reserve. If your comics don’t sell the first time, you can always relist them. Many people pick up bargains on online auctions by bidding on badly listed items with no reserve. The sellers may as well have thrown their comics in the trash, given the chump change they get in return. There is no point letting your comics go for peanuts when you know they’re worth more. Don’t let it happen! Set a reserve, and then the worst-case scenario is that your comics don’t sell. If you’re not getting the price you want by online auction, you can always try elsewhere. You can place a classified ad – which you can do for free on Craigslist, for example – or take your comics to your local comic shop or convention. A local comic book dealer may agree to sell your comics by consignment, meaning he or she sells your comics in exchange for a percentage of the price they sell at. Always remember that if things aren’t going your way in online auctions, you can try selling somewhere else.

We live in a day and age where technology has overruled the innocence that children once possessed. Even at the youngest ages, children are susceptible to television, computers, and all other forms of technology around them. Thankfully, toy companies continue to provide wooden toys for children that occupy children with hours of fun while stimulating a sense of learning and creativity in children of all ages. Among these are the very-popular Lincoln Logs. From their invention in 1916, Lincoln Logs have remained a cultural institution in homes across America. Consisting of miniature “logs” that can be linked together to form works of art, they’re simple to use and enjoyable to play. Lincoln Logs can be picked up at a cost-efficient price in any toy store, providing children of all ages hours of fun to occupy their time.

Wooden cars and train sets are also popular among toddlers ages 2-4. Children that age are so young that anything occupies their attention – wooden cars that kids can move and play with build imagination and creativity. Coming in all shapes and sizes, children can build an entire universe around wooden cars and trains. The minute you give a child a wooden car, watch as their eyes light up and their excitement reaches new heights. Toys like simple wooden building blocks and shapes can also bring joy to a young child’s face. While the toy itself may look simple, it’s what the child does with the toy that’s unique. Children can learn how to build simple to complex structures while making use of shapes and details. If you’re looking to buy your child an exact wooden toy currently on the market, a suggestion would be the “Pyramid of Play.” Although more expensive (around $200), it includes 4 walls with different games and activities to give your child endless possibilities. For the younger children, the inexpensive “Ball Popper” is another great wooden toy in which toddlers pound balls through a hole.

Monday January 24th & 31st, 2011 (2-part series), 7-9pm
Taught by a Pichetti Head Winemaker, Aimee Baker, this wine class is designed to give you an overview of winemaking, starting with the grapes in the vineyard through the winemaker’s finishing touches. Vineyard techniques, growing season, and “terroir” have distinct influences on how a wine will ultimately taste in your glass. Did you know that a winemaker has 30 potential choices/decisions to make before bottling? The wine class will be conducted in a fun and casual combination lecture and wine tasting format. Students will taste a variety of wines both nights that are representative examples of wine making concepts taught in class.
